• Start with Dimensions: Begin by measuring the length and width of your play area using a tape measure. Take precise measurements from edge to edge to ensure accuracy.
• Determine Desired Depth: Consider the intended use of your playground and the recommended depth of rubber mulch. For landscaping purposes, a depth of 2 inches may suffice, while residential play areas typically require a depth of 3 inches. For playgrounds, aim for a depth of 4 to 6 inches to provide adequate cushioning for falls. Commercial settings may require even deeper coverage, around 6 inches.
• Account for Loose Fill: When calculating the depth of the mulch, remember to include an additional layer for loose fill. For example, if you're aiming for a 2-inch depth, add an extra half-inch to account for the loose fill layer.
